Information for Overseas Students Insurance

- Every student must join the student's group insurance, every year NTD$460(pay every semester, every semester NTD$230)

Regarding article 22 of “International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan”. At the time of registration, a new international student shall present proof of a medical and injury insurance policy which is valid for at least 6 months from the date the student enters Taiwan. The current student shall present written proof that they have joined Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Plan. The abovementioned written proof of insurance issued in a foreign country shall be verified by the ‘Overseas Agencies’.
Before you qualify for Taiwan’s National Health Insurance, we are obligated to help students join the International student medical insurance provided by MCUT University. The six months fee is NTD3,000 (This fee must be paid in one week when the new semester begins)
- Information about claiming the insurance: the same symptoms are limited to once a day, and the maximum for claim back the money is NTD$1000 a day, excluding the following expenses:
- the insurance cover the following expenses:
- consultation fee
- medicine fee
- the necessary materials fee or examination fee or check-up fee for the treatments
- hospitalized fee with the third-class hospital bed
- Procedure for claim the insurance:
- go to the nearest clinic to see the doctor
- the consultation fee and examination fee need to pay first by yourself after that bring the receipt for doing the claim back procedure, also remember to get the diagnosis letter from the clinic
- please bring the following document to OIA (Ext: 3015) to do the claim back procedure:
- receipt of payment
- diagnose letter from the clinic
- copy of cover bank passbook
- copy of ARC
- copy of Passport
- fill the claim back insurance form
- National Health Insurance
Regarding the regulation of the Taiwan government, for every overseas student who comes for seeking a degree, has already gotten the ARC and stayed in Taiwan over 6 months, must join the National Health Insurance at the university that he/she studied and every month need to pay $826 (Calculation date NHI fee: March-August and September-February).
in addition, Foreign students with relatives who qualify as insured persons under the NHI program can enroll in NHI as dependents.
The National Health Insurance Program is mandatory; anyone who qualifies for the Program must enroll. Any qualified person who doesn’t enroll is subject to a fine of NT$3,000 to NT$15,000. In addition, this person is required to pay the full premiums starting from the date he or she should have been enrolled. No benefits will be offered before the premiums are paid in full. If fined, a notice of penalty violation will be delivered in writing and the fine must be paid on time. If the fines imposed remain unpaid, after a given period of time the case will be referred to the courts for compulsory enforcement.

- Join the NHI
- Overseas students who have already stayed in Taiwan for over 6 months and first time joining the NHI, please bring the 2inch photo x1, front and back of the photocopy arc to the OIA (Ext: 3015) for Apply NHI.
- if you have already joined NHI before and want to join under Ming-Chi University, please apply the withdrawal proof from your previous university and bring front and back of the photocopy arc to the OIA (Ext. 3015) for Apply NHI.
- Overseas students who join the NHI under University, need to pay the NHI fee for 1 semester directly, the fall semester from September to February and the spring semester from March to August (every month NTD$826x6 months = NTD$4956)
- Withdrawal Procedure: the overseas students who have already graduated, stay in Taiwan for working or not, suspend or drop out from university, please go to OIA (Ext: 3015) for applying the withdrawal procedure.
- If I lose my NHI card, what do I need to do?
If you lose or update your NHI information, need to apply for the new NHI card, please bring a 2inch photo x1 to the post office or Bureau of National Health Insurance to do the application and pay NTD$200 for the administration fee of applying for the new card
- How to use the NHI card to seek medical treatment:
Overseas students after joining the NHI, students will get the NHI card, the student can bring the NHI card and ARC go to the clinic or hospital that has collaboration with National Health Insurance for seeking the medical treatment. However, students still have to pay the registration fee and some medical expenses by themselves.
