Medical Insurance and National Health Insurance

- Q1:Overseas new students are unable to enroll in the National Health Insurance for the first 6 months after arriving in Taiwan. Does the university provide other insurance options for students to enroll in? Is it optional to have insurance?
A1:According to Article 22 of the Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan, new students are required to provide proof of medical and accident insurance coverage with a validity period of at least six months from the date of entry when registering at the university. Current students should provide relevant insurance documents, such as the National Health Insurance certificate issued in Taiwan. If the insurance certificate is issued overseas, it should be verified by the respective foreign office. If students are unable to obtain insurance coverage on their own, the Foreign Student Services Office will assist them in obtaining commercial insurance upon their arrival at the university. This insurance is mandatory, and students are not allowed to opt out of it.
- Q2:How much is for the medical insurance fee?
A2:The medical insurance fee is one month $500 NTD, the overseas new students need to paid for 6 month directly in advance ($ 3,000 NTD)
- Q3:How can overseas students apply for claims for commercial insurance?
A3:The procedure for claim the medical insurance:- go to the nearest clinic to see the doctor;
- pay the consultation fee and examination fee first by yourself. After that bring the receipt for the reimbursement procedure. Also remember to get the diagnosis letter from the clinic;
- please bring the following documents to Office of International Affairs for the reimbursement procedure:
- receipt of payment
- diagnose letter from the clinic
- copy of cover bank passbook
- copy of ARC
- copy of Passport
- fill out the reimbursement insurance form
- Q4:How can I qualify for health insurance?
A4:The eligibility for health insurance starts from the date of entry plus six months for individuals holding a resident visa (continuous residence of at least six months or one exit from Taiwan not exceeding 30 days, with the actual period of residence deducting the days spent outside Taiwan). For those without a resident visa, the calculation starts from the date of obtaining the proof of residence document in Taiwan.
- Q5:What is the fee for National Health Insurance?
A5:The monthly health insurance premium is 826 NTD. Students who have already enrolled in the health insurance scheme are required to pay the health insurance premium for six months (4,956 NTD) in full at the beginning of the semester. They should submit the payment receipt to the Office of International Affairs.
