Q1: What are the funding items and amounts for inviting overseas experts and scholars for visits?
A1:
1. Travel expenses: Round-trip flight tickets at the rate of the economy class.
2. Hourly rates: The maximum honorarium for invited experts and scholars is TWD 2,400 per hour
3. Living Expenses: For those working in Taiwan for up to three months, the compensation is calculated on a daily basis. For those working in Taiwan for more than three months up to one semester, the compensation is calculated on a monthly basis. Income tax shall be levied from the funded daily pay in accordance with the Income Tax Act of the Republic of China and paid by MCUT shall apply of the taxpayers.
4. The grant can be awarded either as an hourly rates for invited scholars or as living expenses. The maximum duration of the grant for visiting scholars is generally limited to six months.
5. The aforementioned grant amounts are implemented based on the "Maximum Standards for Payment of Fees for Hiring Foreign Consultants, Experts, and Scholars by Government Agencies during their Work Period in Taiwan" set by the Executive Yuan. The actual grant funding is subject to the budget and review results of the respective academic year.
 
Q2: Can the same departments apply for the funds of multiple experts and scholars within one year?
A2: Each applicant unit is limited to one application per academic year. Once the grant funding is exhausted, further applications for grants will not be accepted.
 
Q3: What does the scope of inviting overseas experts and scholars for visits include?
A3: It include activities such as teaching, academic lectures, keynote speeches at seminars, technical guidance, research consultations, and other related academic exchange activities.
 
Q4: Can accommodation expenses for foreign experts and scholars be covered by the funds?
A4: Living expenses already include compensation and accommodation expenses, so accommodation expenses will not be provided separately.
 
Q5: Precautions before applying for the funds.
A5: External project funding (e.g. NSTC or MOE projects) shall be prioritized for the funding under these Regulations. No repeated applications for funding shall be allowed for items already funded by external project funding. When no external project funding is available, applicants are eligible to apply for this grant. When external project funding is insufficient, funding for the balance shall be supplied.
